Frequently asked questions

  • I use evidence-based approaches, primarily Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT). These therapies help you understand patterns in your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, while also learning to respond to life’s challenges with more flexibility, clarity, and compassion. My approach is always tailored to your unique needs, blending scientific knowledge with a warm, human-centered style.

  • I work with motivated adults, mature adolescents, and parents who are navigating a wide range of challenges—such as anxiety, depression, social difficulties, executive-functioning concerns, stress, grief, and relationship issues. I also support individuals managing neurodevelopmental conditions like ADHD and autism. No matter what brings you in, we’ll work collaboratively to clarify your goals and move toward meaningful change.

  • I provide both comprehensive psychological and neuropsychological evaluations for children, teens, and adults. My specialties include ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, learning disorders like dyslexia, and differential diagnosis for complex presentations. Assessments help clarify symptoms, answer long-standing questions, and guide a more effective treatment plan.

  • The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. I’ll ask about what brings you in, your history, and what you’re hoping to change or better understand. You’ll also have plenty of space to ask questions and get a feel for whether we’re a good fit. My goal is for you to feel comfortable, heard, and supported from day one.

  • Therapy length varies from person to person. Some people come in for short-term support around a specific challenge, while others prefer longer-term work focused on deeper patterns or ongoing personal growth. We’ll talk openly about your goals and revisit them throughout our work together so the process always feels meaningful and grounded in what matters most to you.

  • Absolutely. I support individuals from a wide range of racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds. Creating a space where people feel respected, understood, and genuinely valued is central to my practice.

  • Yes. I provide both online and in-person therapy for clients across New York and Massachusetts. Many people appreciate the convenience of virtual sessions, while others prefer to meet in my Flatiron District office. You’re welcome to choose the format that works best for you.

  • My style is collaborative, warm, and grounded in evidence-based practice. I integrate CBT, ACT, mindfulness, and humanistic principles to help you understand your mind with curiosity rather than criticism. We’ll focus on aligning your actions with your core values so you can build a life that feels meaningful and authentic.

  • If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain about your next step, therapy can help. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit. Many people come to understand themselves better, learn new coping skills, or make meaningful changes in their relationships, work, or daily life.

  • Yes. I provide consultation for parents of children with special needs, questions about school-based services, or concerns about behavior, social development, or emotional wellbeing. These sessions can be one-time or ongoing, depending on what you need.

  • A comprehensive psychological assessment typically includes interviews, standardized testing, and a detailed final report. The goal is to gain a clear understanding of strengths, challenges, diagnoses (if applicable), and practical recommendations. Many clients describe assessment as a turning point—giving them clarity, validation, and a roadmap for moving forward. Learn more about how psychological testing works.

  • I see individuals from 18 months through adulthood for neuropsychological evaluations. For therapy, I work with mature adolescents and adults.

  • You can reach out through the contact form to set up a brief call. This allows us to talk about what you're looking for and see whether we’re a good fit. If it feels right, we’ll schedule your first appointment and begin exploring your goals together.

  • Park West Psychology is not in-network with any carriers. We can provide you with documents to submit for reimbursement if you have out-of network benefits. Many clients can be reimbursed for a portion of services provided, though the amount is dependent on your plan. Insurance can be confusing. Luckily, we are experts in the area and are more than happy to help with the process if we can. The best way to get support is to email us at: info@parkwestpsychology.com

  • The best way is to call the member services number on your insurance card and ask:

    • What is my out of network deductible for outpatient…

      • Be sure to use the name of the service you are considering, such as individual psychotherapy, couples’/family therapy, neuropsychological testing, etc. If you have questions about the type of service you should ask about, please reach out.

    • How much of my out of network deductible has been me this year?

    • What is my out-of-network coinsurance for outpatient…[use the name of the service]

    • Do I need a referral from an in-network provider or a primary care physician to see someone out-of-network?

    • How do I submit claims for out-of-network reimbursement?

    • Does my plan require prior authorization for…[use the name of the service]

  • It depends on your specific plan. Some insurance companies reimburse for testing when it is deemed medically necessary; others do not. Because assessment involves multiple hours of testing and report writing, I provide a detailed breakdown of services and CPT codes so you can check with your insurance provider ahead of time.

  • Fees vary depending on the type of service—therapy, consultation, or psychological assessment. Because assessments involve scoring, interpretation, and report writing, their costs differ from therapy sessions. I’m happy to walk you through the fee structure during our consultation so you know exactly what to expect before starting.

  • Payment is due at the time of service. I accept credit cards, HSA/FSA cards, and other major electronic payment methods.

  • I have a 24-hour cancellation policy. Sessions canceled within 24 hours may be subject to the full session fee. I understand that emergencies happen, so we’ll handle those on a case-by-case basis.
